Abstract
The photochemical reactions of organic compounds take place from their excited states providing reactive intermediates such as radicals or radical-cations/radical-anion which are hard to be generated in the ground state. The excited states can be obtained by direct irradiation or under photosensitization involving electron-transfer or energy-transfer processes. We are interested in the study of the photophysical and photochemical processes of organic compounds that are able to produce reactive intermediates such as radicals or radical-cations upon light excitation. These intermediates furnish a permanent chemical transformation affording products that cannot be obtained by thermal processes. The research lines developed in our laboratory are photorearrangement reactions, photoinduced pericyclic reactions and photosensitized electron-transfer or energy-transfer oxidation reactions. These photoreactions are studied from mechanistic and synthetic viewpoints using time-resolved and steady-state methodologies.
